This morning I watched the day break over the port of Oakland--California. I'm back in Berkeley for a meeting this week. The meeting will be over tomorrow by Noon and then I'll be here until Saturday morning for some much needed rest.
But this will be active rest. Tonight I'll get to hear Alice Waters, Calvin Trillin, and Ruth Reichl at a City Arts and Lecture's panel at the Civic Center in San Francissco. More exciting than that, though, will be the post-event drinks and nibbles with some of the country's preeminent food bloggers including Jen of Life Begins at 30 (Jen was the inspiration for me to start this blog), Brett from In Praise of Sardines, Heidi from 101 Cookbooks, Sam from Becks and Posh and Fatemah from Gastronomie. These folks have been inspiring me for nearly three years and I can't wait to meet them!
Tomorrow I have a nice quiet lunch set up at Chez Panisse Cafe and then a tour of the Edible School Yard on Thursday. There will be a quick trip to Napa, some tooling around my old haunts, visits with friends, and just a good soaking up of the Bay Area vibe--ally by Saturday. I love Syracuse to be sure, but my body and soul tell me a truth voiced by an ex-boyfriend years ago: I come alive in a different way when I'm in California.
Archive Alert: On this day in 2006 my mother showed her love by standing in line to meet the Barefoot Contessa.
