A special note of welcome to those who have come to Cookin' in the 'Cuse via the latest issue of Green Central New York--so glad you're here!
I loved talking to the Post-Standard about being a locavore in Central New York. As spring moves into summer I'm hoping more and more folks will truly take advantage of the great farmers and producers our area has to offer. And did you see Meg from Wake Robin Farm in the magazine--great job Meg!
Last week I ran down to Manhattan for a 24 hour get-away (I'll be posting on the great restaurant food later). Usually on these trips. I make the obligatory visit to Whole Foods Market at Union Square--but this time, the only thing I came back with was face cream (can't get the brand I like here, sigh.) But my point is, I didn't bring back any food. Truly, with the exception of rare and hard to find foodstuffs--I can get everything I need and want right here. That 40 Below "It's all Here" is for real.
What local foods are you loving right now?
Kudos to the B-B! Great articles all! Right now I've been harvesting swiss chard like crazy (the ones that survived the winter), as well as some nice helpings of asparagus. The rhubard is growing nicely, and the strawberries are loaded with flowers.

Actually, Wake Robin is one of our favorite places! My 2 1/2 yr old daughter calls Meg the "Milk Lady" and seeks her stall out at the Farmer's Market each week. We also love their Mona Lisa (formerly Grasiago) cheese.

First, congrats!!!! Was that Emily G. in the photo with you?
BTW now I want to buy eggs at the Regional Market. Stopped and had a nice chat with him yesterday.
Second, bought asparagus at the Regional Market yesterday (just inside shed A at the same end as Syracuse Soap Works). We grilled it then topped with aioli sauce! It was awesome!
Finally, we've planted tomatoes, peppers and basil this year. All from a guy outside at the Reg. Mkt. (near the stage) who is selling organically grown seedlings in peat pots.

Hey Paul--thanks! Sounds like you'll have great pie fixings with that strawberry and rhubarb!
Shelly, that Mona Lisa is one of my favorites to!
Hi Jill--yep, that was Emily Gibson--from a couple of years ago. Thanks for the tip on the seedlings--I'll look for that guy next week.

Hi Jennifer,
Congrats on the cover! And, so funny, I left the Union Sq. Whole Foods with only face soap.
Hope you're well,
